Heart of Maryland Bowhunters is a member-run organization committed to promoting the sport of archery through education, training and practical experience. We offer a place for everyone to learn, practice, and develop archery skills. All are welcome regardless of whether or not you are a hunter or a target archer. The club is a nonprofit organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)( (3).
Our Organization
The Heart of Maryland Bowhunters (HMB) was established in 1994 as a place for a small group of bowhunters to get together to practice their archery skills. Over the past 30 years we have grown into one of the very best 3D archery courses in Maryland.
The club is situated on 40 acres of the Patapsco State Park with three dedicated members-only practice ranges and a 3/4 mile loop course with 30 3D targets. The three practice ranges consist of a range with nine target butts placed at distances between 10 to 65 yards on a flat range, an elevated shooting platform (normally with at least six 3D targets), and a walk-through 3D range with 20 targets ranging in distances from 15 to 60 yards. The three practice ranges are available to all members at any time of the year, while the 30-target 3D course is reserved for when we have shoots that are open to the public.
Events
During the spring and summer months the club sponsors monthly 30-target 3D shoots normally on the first Sunday of the month but occasionally on a later Sunday to avoid holiday weekends. In 2025, we will have a couple of Saturday afternoon shoots and a couple of Saturday evening spotlight shoots. All of these shoots are open to the public.
All members get their Sunday shoots for free, non-members pay $15.
Most of our targets are Rinehart targets and all are in excellent condition. Our 30-target 3D course, which is separate from the three members-only practice ranges, is a 3/4 mile long loop with varying terrain and many uphill and downhill shots as well as shots from four elevated platforms.
See the calendar for all specific shoot dates.

CLUB NEWS
There will be a 30-target shoot for members only on Saturday May 10, due to the fact that the 30-target 3D shoot being held on Saturday, May 3, was interrupted by a huge thunderstorm that began while the shoot was in progress and forced everyone off the range. The same thing happened that evening to the Spot-Lighter Shoot that began at 7:30 PM.
Shooters who participate on May 10 must be finished and off the range no later than 2 PM so that the 4-H Club can hold their meeting at the range. There is no makeup for the Spot-Lighter Shoot scheduled at this time.
Our next regularly scheduled 30-target shoot will be on Sunday, June 2. Shooters may begin shooting at 8:00 AM and start no later than noon. The shoot is open to the public. Non-members pay $15 and members shoot for free. There will be a work day on Saturday, May 31, beginning at 8:00 AM.
